Eye Exams at Pelham Eye Center

Comprehensive Eye Exams for the Whole Family

The Foundation of Eye Health

At Pelham Eye Center, a comprehensive eye exam is at the basis of everything we do. We strive to form relationships with our patients and take care of any vision and ocular health needs over time. Comprehensive eye exams are important to not only care for vision, but also to establish a basis for monitoring overall eye health. Many times, ocular disease is discovered at a comprehensive eye exam, even in asymptomatic patients. We perform everything from pediatric and geriatric eye exams to diabetic eye exams and exams for those on high-risk medications. We handle refractions for glasses and evaluations for contact lenses, too, during comprehensive eye exams.

  • Our comprehensive eye exams provide you with an updated vision prescription and also serve as your first line of defense against potential eye conditions. If we detect any issues, we will tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs.

  • Our children’s eye exams are just like our comprehensive eye exams, but designed with younger eyes in mind. We aim to ensure your child has a strong foundation for healthy sight. We specifically check for conditions more common in children such as amblyopia (lazy eye) or myopia (near-sightedness).

  • In order to provide you with the best vision and comfort, our contact lens exams include precise measurements and evaluations. We select lenses based on visual needs, corneal measurements, and lifestyle considerations. We also teach proper insertion and removal techniques and review proper lens care.

  • Because certain medications have ocular risk factors, special testing will need to be conducted periodically to continue safely using high-risk medications. Often these exams are coordinated with internists and rheumatologists. Some examples of high-risk medications include hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) or long-term steroid use (Prednisone). We perform all required testing in office and coordinate our findings with other doctors as needed.

  • We urge all diabetic patients to have a yearly eye exam since ocular complications are common with diabetes. We use advanced imaging to detect early signs of diabetic retinopathy and coordinate findings with internists or endocrinologists as needed.
