Ocular Disease

Ocular Disease Diagnosis and Management

Our team is trained and ready to assist with all types of ocular disease. We offer in-depth diagnosis, treatment, and management options.

Eye Disease Diagnosis

We believe timely diagnosis leads to better outcomes when managing ocular disease. Regular comprehensive eye exams are the best way to stay ahead of problems.

Ocular disease and surgical co-management are important parts of comprehensive eye care at Pelham Eye Center. We strive to offer complete eye care to our patients, which is why we take a proactive approach to ocular disease management. We manage a myriad of different types of ocular disease at Pelham Eye Center, but listed below are some of the more common conditions we diagnose and treat.

  • Glaucoma

Glaucoma usually occurs when the pressure inside the eye gets too high, causing damage to the optic nerve. If left undiagnosed or untreated, it can result in peripheral vision loss or even blindness. Since glaucoma does not usually cause symptoms, we screen patients for glaucoma at comprehensive eye exams

  • Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration occurs when the tissue in the central retina starts to deteriorate. It can cause central vision loss, distorted vision, or even blindness if left undiagnosed or untreated.

  • Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy occurs when leaky blood vessels cause hemorrhages to develop in the retina. If left undiagnosed or untreated, it can result in vision loss or blindness. We recommend all diabetic patients have a yearly eye exam because early diagnosis and treatment has proven to result in better visual outcomes.

Surgical Co-management

  • Cataract Surgery

Cataracts are a common aging condition. If your vision becomes affected by cataracts, cataract surgery may be required. We work closely with local cataract surgeons and handle pre- and post-operative appointments at our office.

  • LASIK/PRK

Refractive surgery is one of the most sought-after procedures our patients inquire about. We have advanced diagnostic equipment to help determine if you are a candidate and which procedure is best for your needs. We handle pre- and post-operative appointments at our office.

  • Strabismus Surgery

Strabismus occurs when the eyes are not properly aligned. This condition often affects young children and can cause problems with visual development if not corrected in a timely manner. We work closely with strabismus surgeons to re-align the eye muscles surgically if other treatment options have failed.

  • Retina Surgery

Retina surgery is often urgent in nature and is required to preserve vision in the case of issues such as retinal detachments, macular holes, or wet age-related macular degeneration. We work closely with retinal surgeons if these services are required.
